The Alumni in the Spotlight series is a collection of public lectures given by some of the University’s most distinguished alumni, who are each making waves in their respective industries.

The 2014-15 series casts the spotlight on leading alumni from the world of film, technology, retail, architecture, broadcasting and law. Guests can expect to hear anecdotes, inspiring stories, and intellectual insight into topics that influence and intrigue us in our daily lives.

All University of Westminster alumni, students, staff and friends are welcome to attend. These lectures are free, and are followed by an informal drinks reception. Booking is essential.

‘The politics of Architecture can we influence change?’

What’s the talk about? “Sustainability" is on everyone’s agenda. Whether we are talking about food, travel or designing buildings….more than ever now is the time to cut our Carbon and look to renewable energy design solutions. In this talk, Angela Brady will cast the spotlight on sustainable design and engaging communities in the process of making durable contemporary buildings.

Speaker biography: Angela Brady is the past president of the Royal Institute of British Architects (2011-2013) and founder of the award-winning practice Brady Mallalieu Architects, which specialises in contemporary sustainable architecture. She has won many awards over the years, including: The Irish Post/AIB Bank Award for personal achievement in architecture; Lifetime achievement Award 'Women In Construction 2012'; and the WISE Award for women of outstanding achievement for Leadership & Inspiration 2013. Angela is also a professional TV broadcaster, author and avid campaigner for sustainable design and ethics in architecture.
